Antelope Valley Press Endorses Tom Lackey for Assembly
“…better for a lot of reasons to give Lackey a try.”
Palmdale, CA— In a recent editorial published on Saturday, October 25th, the Antelope Valley Press, similar to a majority of the local leaders in California’s 36th Assembly District endorsed retired Highway Patrol Sergeant and Candidate for Assembly Tom Lackey.
Both Democrats and Republicans have deemed the seat covering portions of Los Angeles, Kern, and San Bernardino Counties as a top-target, and for Democrats it is seen as the key to maintaining a legislative supermajority.
The AV Press said about Lackey’s opponent, “Fox switched from Republican to Democrat and secured election with a 150-vote margin, riding on President Barack Obama’s 2012 coattails.”
Moreover, the article highlighted the issues that arise with such a one-sided state government, “Monopolies for either party seldom yield good results. One party will unabashedly favor its own interests and its own interest groups to the disadvantage of the public…When either party is in charge of ‘everything,’ it is simply too big a temptation.”
For nearly three decades, Lackey has served the community in which he now seeks to represent as an Assemblyman. A former special education teacher and School Board Member as well as a Special Olympics volunteer and three-term local City Councilman, Lackey has displayed the upmost commitment to the education, safety, and economic success of those in his community.
Although Lackey’s commitment to the region he calls home and his altruistic nature are undoubted by the many who support his campaign, Fox and his political consultants have attempted to paint him in a different light. The AV Press article led on to say, “…hit mailers verging on hate mail cast Lackey as a tyrant…Nobody who knows Lackey or followed his public service career would recognize the real-life man in that mailed manure.”
A committed husband and father to two adopted children, Tom Lackey has been endorsed by a majority of the Lancaster and Palmdale City Councils, numerous other representatives on both the local and state levels, taxpayer organizations and small business associations, and all three Supervisors in the District. The endorsement by the Antelope Valley Press closed with, “[This election] It is the choice that people should take seriously to decide on who will best represent them. We now know how Fox does it and think it would be better for a lot of reasons to give Lackey a try.”
