CAHP Endorses Tom Lackey for Assembly

Palmdale, CA— Former Highway Patrol Sergeant and Candidate for Assembly, Tom Lackey has received the endorsement of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen (CAHP). As a Highway Patrol Officer for nearly 30 years, Lackey dedicated much of his life to protecting the families and streets of a community in which he now runs to represent in the State Legislature.

Over 100 years ago, the first rural traffic officer was hired and since that time, the California Highway Patrol has materialized into one of the most capable and respected law enforcement organizations in the country. The CAHP is dedicated to ensuring both the safety and wellbeing of its members as well as their families.

“As one of our own, there is no one more knowledgeable on our issues than Tom Lackey,” said CAHP President Doug Villars. “He will be an asset at the state level when addressing policies that affect public safety, and we are confident that he is the best choice to support the men and women in uniform and protect his community.”

Although Tom Lackey has dedicated a lifetime to the safety of California’s residents, his commitment to the region has been demonstrated on numerous levels. A former special education teacher and School Board Member, as well as a three-term Palmdale City Councilman, Tom has focused on returning local control to our school districts and ensuring tax dollars are spent in the classroom. He has also been a leader on policy reform, helping to both create and attract jobs for the region.

“Being a Highway Patrolman was a lifelong dream and I was reminded of that each day that I had the honor of putting on the uniform and protecting our residents,” said Lackey. “I’m proud to have the endorsement of the CAHP and I look forward to working with them in the future.”

In addition to CAHP’s endorsement, Lackey has earned widespread support from other public safety organizations, taxpayers, and local leaders, some of which include: the California Correctional Peace Officers Association, California Small Business Association, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, retired Highway Patrol Commissioner Spike Helmick, and every County Supervisor in the District.
