Education Leaders Begin To Gather Behind Tom Lackey
Palmdale, CA— Former education professional, former Highway Patrol Sergeant and candidate for Assembly, Tom Lackey has received three more endorsements from local educators in the race for Assembly. Adding to the recent endorsement from Palmdale School District President Nancy Smith, today Lancaster School District Board Members Diane Grooms, Mel Kleven, and Chris Grado announced their support.
Grooms, currently the Vice-President of the Lancaster School Board is often recognized for over two decades of community service that she has provided in the Antelope Valley. Her innovative nature has been integral in the formation of collaborative partnerships between non-profits that are focused on education.
“Tom’s experience with the local school district and the overall dedication that he has exemplified toward education in our region is just one of many reasons why I believe that he is the best candidate in this race,” said Grooms. “I am confident that his leadership will provide our educators with increased local control, while expanding opportunity for our students.”
It is clear that Lackey’s diverse background in the community as well as his service has left a lasting impression on his co-workers. Although he is challenging an incumbent in what promises to be one of the most competitive Assembly races in the State, his performance in the Primary and his continued dominance in the contest for local support has started to make Lackey look like the favorite.
“Tom has earned the support of co-workers, community members, and well-known local leaders because those who have worked with him know that he is truly committed to doing the right thing,” said Kleven. “His passion for our community and experience making tough decisions will benefit not only our students, but also the area’s hardworking families and residents.”
Lackey worked with the California Highway Patrol for nearly 30 years, where he retired as a Sergeant. He is currently serving his third term on the Palmdale City Council, and has been a City appointee to the California Contract Cities Association, the Antelope Valley Crime Task Force, and the Antelope Valley Human Relations Task Force.
Tom Lackey and his wife Theresa, live in Palmdale with their two adopted children, Justin and Jani.
