Palmdale, CA — Assemblyman Tom Lackey today announced he has received the endorsement of Senator Melissa Melendez, in his 2022 reelection campaign in Assembly District 34.
In announcing her support for Lackey, Senator Melendez stated, “There is no other candidate who more deeply understands how important it is to protect the public. Where other candidates do a lot talking about how they’d protect the public if only you’d elect them, Tom wore the uniform for 28 years because he believes in the cause, not the applause. I respect him, and most importantly, I trust him.”
Senator Melendez has been a champion for conservative causes in the Legislature, serving as one of the leading voices in opposition to Governor Newsom’s emergency order extensions and lockdowns. She also has fiercely advocated against soft-on-crime policies that let criminals out of prison early.
Tom Lackey served as a California Highway Patrol officer for 28 years, retiring as a Sergeant and making him the only member of the Assembly Republican Caucus with a background in law enforcement. Tom currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Assembly Pubilc Safety Committee as an outspoken advocate for law enforcement and a leading voice on crime and safety issues in Sacramento.
Senator Melendez joins a long list of Republican leaders endorsing Lackey, including House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Republican Leader Scott Wilk.
Lackey has served in the Assembly since 2014 and is running for reelection in Assembly District 34, which includes portions of high desert communities in San Bernardino County, South East Kern County, and Northern Los Angeles County. He has two children and lives with his wife, Linda, in Palmdale.
