Assemblyman Tom Lackey is dedicated to changing a culture of complacency in California’s special education system.

“Honest and hardworking, Tom is an effective leader who has demonstrated a fierce passion for improving our schools.”

Nancy Smith
– President of the Board, Palmdale School District
As a child growing up in the small mining town of Boron, Tom Lackey developed a passion for education and service at a young age. As the son of the only dentist in town and leader for the community, Tom witnessed the foundation of success that education had provided for his Father and the personal fulfillment made possible through community participation.

This compassion for community shaped Tom’s outlook on life and his dedication to a region that he has always called home. A retired Sergeant for the California Highway Patrol and father to two adopted children, Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in special education and started his career as an elementary teacher for children with special needs.
